The Dreaded PayPal

This information is largely concerning the use of PayPal when selling items on Ebay. I strongly recommend using some sort of merchant account when selling items on Ebay which will give you the opportunity to avoid dealing with PayPal with some of your Ebay transactions. The fact of the matter is that accepting PayPal is absolutely necessary but at the same time a real hinderance to your personal business operations. This is due to the massive amount of Ebay buyers who prefer to use PayPal and the fact that PayPal controls your money. Yeah, that's right; they have more control over the funds in your PayPal account than you do. They can lock your funds in the account and keep you from getting your money and they exercise this so-called right to the maximum extent allowed by law and they may go even further than that. For instance if a buyer claims they haven't receieved their merchandise and you can't prove that they did receive the merchandise; then you'll have to fork over the money or have your PayPal account frozen. You're probably thinking well what if I give PayPal my shipping reciept? It will not matter, the only way you can hold on to the money is if you provide tracking information that states the item was delivered to the buyers address. So always get a tracking number when accepting PayPal on Ebay. All it takes is one fraudelent buyer to receive your merchandise with no tracking number on it and they will lie to PayPal and say they never received it to get their money back, and there's nothing you'll be able to do about it. Moreover if they refund the money from your PayPal account and take the account into a negative balance they will permanently close your account until the negative balance is brought back to zero. Furthermore if they have your social security number then they will damage your credit if the account is not paid up to a zero balance. Yeah, that's right, don't give those bastards your social during the verification process when you sign up. Make sure to verify your identity with your bank account and a credit card. By all means do not give them your social security number. Let that be a credit tip to you as well; no creditor can claim a debt from a debtor who has not been verified by social security number. So make sure that for the most part you keep your social security number to yourself.
Dealing with international customers is a pain as well because obtaining tracking on international packaging is expensive, so be sure to hand that expense off to your international customers. Don't be ashamed of letting them know that your international shipping fees are higher because of the cost of verifying delivery internationally. Its better to be safe than to send off a very valuable item without tracking and have the buyer scam you out of a lot of money. Also be certain to get the international item insured as well, so if the buyer claims loss the post office will reimburse your money with the right documentation. Lastly and this is a bit unfortunate, !!PayPal reserves the right to freeze your account and every dime in it based on the products you sell. They refer to this as high risk merchandise not necessarily valuable merchandise either, for instance my account was frozen and cancelled for selling comic books. So when doing business on Ebay beware of the dreaded PayPal.
